Maggie's First Day of 2nd Grade

Yesterday Maggie started 2nd grade.  She was beyond excited for this day to arrive.  She started asking back in July, but I wasn't quite ready for a countdown then so we waited till August and she counted everyday.  Andy and I don't start work officially until Thursday, therefore we were both able to walk with her on her first day, it was a special treat.  (This was a first for both of us since we are usually working at that time.)

Since Maggie was starting it was easiest to go ahead and have Molly start at the sitter (preschool actually starts in another few weeks).  This way I could get into the classroom and get some work done while they were occupied.  Maggie walks with a lot of friends from Miss Leslie's house.  We met there for a quick picture and then we were on our way!

Andy was able to meet Maggie at the corner and walk with her on her way home today too.  She reported she had a great day and she loves second grade.  Her teacher sent a few pictures of the class too.  But I can't seem to get them from there to here...I will keep trying!

Preview Night 2014

Maggie is beyond excited to start second grade...before August even hit she wanted to know how many days till school started which I did not want to discuss.  Earlier this week she had her preview night where she could go and meet her teacher, see her classroom and find out who else is in her class.

This year Maggie has Mrs. Anderson.  Maggie and Lucas anxiously awaited the day they could find out who their teacher was and they desparately wanted to be in the same class...they are not...but their classrooms are right next door to each other.  They will still spend every morning together, walk to school and home from school together and see each other every afternoon.

Tomorrow is the big day!

Summer Update

So I thought when I posted the last time I would get back into the swing of things and be more on top of my blogging...that obviously did not happen.  Therefore you all are going to have to just settle for a summer update and then I vow to try to update in a more timely manner.  This summer Maggie and Molly wanted to create a summer bucket list (inspired by a book Maggie read, "Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer)...the choices on this list were mostly theirs with some guidance by Andy and I as well as things we knew we were already going to be doing.  The best way to update you on all that we have been doing would be to just share what we accomplished on the list.

Summer Bucket List 2014

1. Eat the Kitchen Sink at Colonial Café
2. Raging Waves Water Park
3. Kane County Cougars Game

4. Brookfield Zoo

5. Jamaica Trip

6. Have a Lemonade Stand
7. A trip to Grandma and Grandpa's Vacation House (Galena)
8. Have a play date...there are no pictures of this.  We didn't do anything official, but there was a LOT of play time had by the 4 amigos aka Maggie, Lucas, Molly and Layla.
 9. Run with Daddy...again no picture, but Maggie ran a few times this summer in the morning with Andy...she really wants to do a local race called the Mashed Potato Mile...we will see...
10. Go to Prairiefest and ride a pony...this girls did this, but I can't find my picture...the went the next day with the Ensign's and rode unlimited rides.  They had an absolute blast!
11. Build a sandcastle....this was a daily occurance in Jamaica as we were able to go to the beach every morning.  We even managed to build a "sand"man inspired by none other than Olaf...
12. Go to the movies...Andy took the girls on a Friday morning to see the old school version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  The local theater showed movies on Fridays for 1$ a ticket!
13. Make homemade ice cream
14. Make something tie-dyed
15. Take a Paddle Boat Ride

16. Go Mini Golfing...Andy took the girls while I painted one morning...they had to settle for indoor because it was a raining day.
17.  Have a picnic
18. Go on a Scavenger Hunt
19. Swim at the pool
20.  (the only one we didn't get to) Go fishing

In addition to this list this summer was occupied with Maggie playing baseball, both girls in gymnastics, Molly in ballet, numerous trips to the neighborhood park and pool, family time, friend time, s'mores (thanks to Chrissy and Dave), the 4th of July, Andy's birthday, walks, trips to the Dairy Hut, news that we are expecting another girl come this December and much more...
